About Us

Scent-imental Street candles was founded in October 2006.

Owner and chief chandler, Lee McClinton, wanted to make a little extra money to make ends meet.  She joined a direct marketing company that specialized in selling homemade candles.  Unfortunately, after buying two "demo" kits, and investing some of her hard-earned money, she found out that this particular company was, in fact, a scam.  After searching for other companies that sold candles, and not finding any that sparked her interest, Lee thought to herself, "I wonder if I can make my own?"  She started reading up on the art of candlemaking, and soon poured her first candle.  She was hooked.

After months of toying around with her new-found craft, she decided that she wanted to try her hand at selling her crafts, and Scent-imental Street was born.

Four months after she started the company in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, Lee packed up herself, her wax, and her candle shop, and moved to her family home in central Texas, which is where Scent-imental Street operates today.

Nearly every product sold is made by Lee herself, occasionally enlisting the help of a few extra hands.  Thus, Scent-imental Street is a family owned and operated business, run almost entirely by Lee, but with a little help from her parents, brother, aunt and cousin.

Where did the name come from, you ask?  Well, bigger than Lee's passion for candlemaking and the love of all things fragranced, is her passion for music, particularly rock music from the 80's.  Scent-imental Street is a variation on the title of a song by one of Lee's favorite bands growing up, Night Ranger.  She was trying to come up with a unique name that reflected her music-obsessed personality, and just when she thought she couldn't come up with anything, "Sentimental Street" started playing on her iPod, and she knew then and there that this HAD to be the name of her business.  It stuck.

A lot of other things within the company are music-related.  The two current Premium lines, Secret Garden Spa and The Sharp-Dressed Collection, are based off of song titles.  Many of her fragrance names are also based on music, whether they be song titles, album titles, or band names.  It's the best way she can think of to combine her two favorite passions in life.
